SEAMUS BLAKE - SUBTERFUGE (BILL STEWART SOLO & COMPING) (1:50)

Bill’s playing on this Seamus Blake track immediately caught my attention upon first listen. His solo over top of the piano’s rhythmic figures fit beautifully. A note of appreciation for the fact this solo presents a nice balance of ride cymbal (“time”), and the rest of the kit (“solo”). Zooming in, the precision with which he plays his subdivisions particularly on measures 56-60, really impressed me, as well as the classic Bill Stewart cross over phrase on measures 70-71.
